Czech Constructivism of the Sixties and its Demise

Actually, the artist realizes the Janus-like face of order-chance: after all, even chance is generated by computer in this case, is therefore programmed sui generis; is it necessary to waste more words on the homologic character of Sýkora´s art and natural and social reality? But perhaps this should still be said: Sýkora is often placed into the sphere of so-called computer art. However, Sýkora´s work does not introduce the computer into its coherence from without, the artist does not use it to help achieve effects unattainable otherwise: It is a more important and more basic issue: Sýkora´s work is unique proof of inward accord, of harmony in the artistic logic of his work (thereby showing one of the paths for contemporary art as such) with the logic of modern science and technology; it is the meeting and penetration point of two as yet independent human activities which have arrived at an intersection-point along autonomous routes – therein bearing the promises and threats of both. And that is one of the ways of proving that there is irrational in the rational, informel in the constructive – it is proof that has been barely hinted in the past.
